Codex
OpenAI's coding agent. My backup for when I run out of Claude usage or Claude is down.
Codex is OpenAI’s coding agent, and I’ll be straight about how I use it: it’s my backup. I build in Claude Code for basically everything, so the only time I open Codex is when I’ve burned through my usage or Claude is having an outage. That happens rarely, but when it does it’s nice to not be dead in the water.
When I do use it, I use the VS Code extension, not the app. Same window, same project, same muscle memory. Switching models is enough of a tax without also switching where you work, so I keep everything in the same familiar workflow.
I’ve heard genuinely good things from people who run Codex as their primary, and I believe them. I just haven’t had a reason to move.
